UWA Flying Disc Club

History

The UWA Flying Disc Club has been around since 2007, run in conjunction with UWA sports.  The main objective of the club is to develop the play of flying discs sports at the university, especially ultimate frisbee.  The club first competed on a national level in 2000 at the Australian Universities Championships.  In 2002 the AUC was renamed the Australian University Games and since then UWA has sent an ultimate team to every competition.  UWA is also very proud of its association with the Western Australian Flying Disc Association.  Since 2006 UWA has strived to place as many teams in the Perth Ultimate League as possible and have been reasonably successful.  UWA also competes in SUL and Phoenix has Risen the WA mixed championships.  In 2007 ultimate was introduced to the Indian Rim Asian University Games (IRAUG) with UWA taking out the inaugural title against a very strong Japanese team.  2008 saw UWA branch out from McGillvray Oval and WAFDA to create their own Evening Social Sport Ultimate League run in conjunction with UWA sport.
